Contents Page Analysis

This is the contents page from the same issue of NME. On the left hand side, there is a band index to make it easier for the reader to determine whereabouts their favourite band(s) are in the magazine. They are listed in alphabetical order in red font with the page numbers at the side in black font. This targets their target audience by allowing the reader to see the wide range of bands in this issue.
The dominant colours used on the contents page are the same as on the front cover - black, white, and red. The only other colour that is used (apart from on the photo) is yellow. This is used in the banner promoting the NME subscription service. This has been done so that it stands out from the rest of the page.
The contents on the right hand side of the page seem to use a peer-to-peer mode of address. It uses synthetic personalisation as if to establish a relationship to the reader - "Coming soon to a games console near you..." - speaking directly to the reader. This is also done with the shortening of the name Franz Ferdinand to just 'Franz' and the phonetic spelling of 'rawk' (rock).
The types of articles in the issue are news (e.g. album news from the Gossip and Kate Nash etc.), unsigned band promotion, new album/single and live show reviews and other features on bands/artists including Lily Allen and David Bowie (both shown on front cover).
